Today I bring you a review of the AHA + BHA facewash by Hada Labo

A little "story" before going on to the review:
As some of you may know (or not know) I spent a year in Japan from April last year to April this year.
Everyone who has spent a larger amount of time in a foreign country will know this: you pack your cosmetics and skin care from home but sooner or later you will run out of it and have to look around at the local shops.
Looking back, in my case that was one of the best things that happened in my life. Before going to Japan I was kinda interested in Korean cosmetics but mostly decorative cosmetics, especially BB Creams. Japanese cosmetics or skincare just didn't seem very appealing or accessible. Why the hassle when you can go to your local drugstore and buy stuff there, right?
Now this is where I was really wrong.
Of course, the first time I entered my nearest Japanese drugstore to find some moisturizer and face wash I was lost. Literally. I could already speak Japanese fine but all the Kanjis and colours, I was really confused. I ended up buying some of the "cheaper" stuff (skincare in Japan is a lot more expensive than in Germany) which was a face wash by Kracie Naive (I think it was the green tea or mint type or something). And I was literally blown away. When you buy cheap drugstore skincare in Germany most of the time it doesn't really do anything. But in Japan it seemed that even when I bought the cheaper products they did at least something. Of course I kept on trying new products because I was so happy with the results I got from my first tries and now I never wanna go back. I saw how my skin really improved while I was in Japan and it made me really happy. I talked to a lot of my German friends since I'm back and almost all of them seem so sluggish when it comes to skincare. And then I heard a sentence that really hit me hard. "You know, I just kinda gave up with skincare." I was bummed. Skincare became so important to me and I love trying out new products and seeing my skin getting better.
The thing is: I can understand why people give up on skincare in Germany. The products itself seem done halfheartedly, the packaging is boring and the most variety you have is "sensitve skin" - "normal skin" - "dry skin" and "acne". And believe me, you don't wanna buy the acne stuff. It's really strong, so especially for people with skin problems, they're kinda left alone here.
Anyways, long story short: I'm really happy that I discovered Japanese and Korean skincare and I kinda lost my interest in buying German products.
(I'm also trying to give advice to my friends, because it's sad how unsatisfied and hopeless they are with their skin.)
Texture: it's white and pasty and doesn't lather too well. But I'm using a little foam sponge to get enough foam so it's okay with me.
Smell: Oh boy....I don't like the smell. I can't even say what it's supposed to smell like. Medicine? Eggs? I kinda got used to it but if you have got a sensitve nose the smell might be a problem.
Effects: It really cleanses my skin but leaves it soft. I remove my make-up with an oil before cleansing it in the evening so I can't say if this face wash would remove all of your make-up but I guess it would. I really feel like my skin is clean after using it but not too tight. I read on other reviews that some people say it dried out their skin but for me it's fine. I also use a toner, essence/toner and moisturizer in the evening. I guess the drying depends on your skintype and the rest of your skincare. So if you have sensitive skin I would recommend you try it out somewhere. I only use this in the evening since I have another cleanser that I wanna finish soon.
Since I started using this cleanser I noticed that my pimples fade away quicker (especially when I don't tough them at all). I haven't really changed anything else in my skincare routine (except a new cleansing oil) so I'm attesting this development to this cleanser. It could fade the pimples and scars faster (don't we all wish for a miracle product that makes your pimples go away in the matter of seconds?) but I still like this cleanser.
Repurchase: I'm pretty sure.

Edit: As I got more and more into the world of skincare I discovered the topic about pH and cleansers. You can read in this fantastic article why the pH of your cleanser actually matters and why you should look for a cleanser with a pH under 5.6. So decided to purchase some pH strips and test my cleansers.
This one here has a pH of around 6. Since at-home testing is not 100% accurate this result may not be 100% true. It's a bit too high in pH but still lower than most cleansers on the market.

Since I had a really good experience with the facial cream/milky lotion by hada labo (I love that to death!) I decided to try out a face wash by them. A few days before that I had read articles about chemical exfoliation and really wanted to try that, sadly Germany doesn't seem to have caught up on the trend yet.
So I looked at the Hada Labo site and I saw this face wash. It's part of the Tamagohada series, which is supposed to make your skin (I quote) soft and smooth like an unshelled egg. So why not try that.

I have dry and sensitive skin. This foam will destroy, literally destroy your dry and sensitive skin. My dermatologist (Japanese) does not recommend it at all.
AntwortenLöschenIf you are really set on trying drugstore AHA / BHA cleansers that are gentler and suitable for dry skin, I suggest try the DetClear line - their powder wash has been the highest rated facial cleanser in Japan for two years running.
Overall, I find Hada Labo products to be quite harsh if you have dry and sensitive skin.

Wow, that sounds awful. I figured it could be too harsh for sensitive/dry skin. I have combination/oily skin so this cleanser works really well. I even have the feeling it's not strong enough sometimes.

I've only had amazing results with Hada Labo. I guess it really depends on the skin type. When I first started using it, I could see a change after only one week and even my boyfriend (who normally can't tell what color my lipstick is) saw a change. That's why I like their products so much, because my skin felt so soft and healthy.
Kinda amazing what difference as different skintype can make =D

I have bormal oily skin but whatI learn about my skin in my skincarejourney ia that it doesnt like tobw treatedsoo harshand roo stripping, at the same time it doeant like to be weighed down by heavy and thick products.

I'm not sure if this would work as an exfoliator since it's meant to be a face wash but you know your skin best. Especially if you have sensitive skin you should start slowly and with gentle products. Hope you will find something suitable!
LöschenHai love to read your review bout this face wash. But recently i just read tht it can't be use as daily face wash since it's contain aha bha exfoliate and its too harsh for the skin. I would to ask you is it okay since i already purchase this and use this everyday. My skinn type is combination more to oily. I didn't find it to dry for me but I'm afraid it will made my face dry in the future
